Trillium Engineering Introduces Semantic Versioning with Software Release 3.1
Trillium Engineering is announcing an important update to our software versioning strategy. Beginning with software release 3.1, we are transitioning from a Calendar Versioning (CalVer) model to a standardized Semantic Versioning (X.Y.Z) framework. Semantic Versioning provides a clearer way to communicate the scope and impact of software updates more clearly, making it easier for users to understand what has changed and how releases may affect their systems.
As part of this change, the current software version 26.2 will be superseded by the 3.1. release. Over the upcoming weeks all commercial production gimbals will be shipped with the 3.1 release starting with the HD40 product line.
Under the New Structure X.Y.Z:
Major Releases (X) introduce significant architectural changes or compatibility updates such as API updates or architectural shifts.
Minor Releases (Y) deliver new capabilities, performance enhancements, and feature additions while maintaining backward compatibility.
- Patch Releases (Z) provide bug fixes, stability improvements, and low-risk updates.
As Trillium's software continues to expand, this transition establishes a more scalable and predictable process, giving customers greater visibility into software updates and what to expect from each release.
Customer‑Specific Software Versions
Customer-specific software builds will continue to be fully supported and will retain their existing version numbers. This change does not affect our ability to maintain stable, locked configurations for customer‑specific releases.

- More precise gimbal performance: Enhanced motion control supports smoother movement, improved limit handling, and steadier target hold during aircraft overflight.
- Improved tracking performance: Reduced jitter, smoother mode transitions, and cleaner overlays support more stable tracking and clearer visuals.
- More consistent imagery: Updated color tuning, white balance, sensor performance, and contrast enhancement improve image clarity across EO modes.
- Greater system reliability: Updates address unexpected resets, network interruptions, and pipeline crashes while strengthening safety interlocks.
- More efficient development and production workflows: Streamlined firmware updates, improved configuration-file handling, and refined user-interface behavior simplify system setup and management.
