Ministry of Defense of Ukraine recently acquired an undisclosed amount of Quantum-Systems Vector unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with configurations of Trillium Engineering’s HD40 gimbal.

The UAVs are fitted with Trillium Engineering’s HD40-LV electro-optical payload to support intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations such as border patrol, search-and-rescue, and battlefield surveillance. The HD40-LV is an EO/IR configuration that combines a unique Magnesium structure with the latest 10x optical zoom cameras and fixed focal length uncooled LWIR to deliver unparalleled performance for a 4’’ diameter gimbal.

Quantum-Systems, a German-based company, is a global leader in providing aerial data via its drones. Their drones deliver high-resolution data for the Geospatial, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance sectors selling to multiple industries and governments worldwide. They aim to solve highly complex and challenging problems with easy-to-use, highly automated, high-tech drone systems.

The Vector electric vertical take-off and landing (eVOTL) is a fixed-wing UAVs capable of facing any direction. Energy-efficient and capable of long-range missions, it exceeds the performance of current UAV platforms on the market. The fixed-wing UAV has a wingspan of 2.8 m, a maximum take-off weight of 7.4 kg, and an endurance of up to two hours. It can also operate at speeds of up to 25 m/s.

A small portion of the UAVs ordered are already in use in Ukraine. According to Quantum-Systems, the remaining systems will be delivered once the Ukrainian forces have completed adequate training, which only takes about four days. The company said that additional information regarding the deal had not been disclosed for security reasons.
